The inauguration of the Badminton Academy at Laurels School International was a momentous event, marking the school’s dedication to nurturing young athletes and promoting excellence in sports. The ceremony commenced with the traditional School Prayer, followed by the lighting of the lamp, which symbolized the beginning of a new journey for the academy. A beautiful Ganesh Vandana was performed, filling the atmosphere with a sense of reverence and auspiciousness. Renu Kumar, the anchor for the event, welcomed all the distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, Mr. Sudhir
Verma, and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Sourabh Verma, highlighting the significance of the academy’s establishment. The event also saw the presence of Managing Director Ms. Jaya Chacko, Director Ms. Jennifer Chacko, and Principal Ms. Thara Nair, whose leadership and vision have been pivotal in bringing this academy to life.
The badminton courts of the academy are designed with premium Brazilian Teak Wood, and the flooring meets the high standards set by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). This state-of-the-art facility provides an ideal environment for students to train and excel in the sport. Mr. Sudhir Verma, the Lifetime Achievement Awardee and Chief Guest, praised the school’s vision and recognized the academy as a “hub for nurturing badminton talent,” a place where young athletes can grow and thrive. Mr. Sourabh Verma, a three-time Men’s Single Champion at the Indian National Championship, emphasized the importance of dedication and the right environment for success, with his presence alone serving as a source of inspiration to all in attendance.
On this occasion, the school also announced the opening of the Laurels Trophy Open Badminton Competition, scheduled from the 10th to the 13th of February. This tournament aims to bring together talented athletes from across the region, offering a platform for them to showcase their skills and engage in healthy competition. The event also featured an Open House, offering attendees the opportunity to interact with the academy’s trainers , a place where young athletes can grow and thrive.
