Leader In Me Programme

Leadership is not for a few but for everyone. Leadership is not a position. It is action - the actions we take every day. Let’s be leaders together and inspire change in our communities.

In association with Franklin Covey Education Group, in 2022-23 academic session, Laurels School International became a “Leader in Me” School with a vision of leadership for our young laureates. “Leader in Me” is Stephen Covey’s whole-school transformation model that builds leadership and life skills in students. At Laurels School International, students, and staff learn skills that include critical thinking, goal setting, listening and speaking, self-directed learning, presentation-making, and the ability to work in groups.

Based on the proven principles found in Stephen R. Covey's book, the 7 Habits helps students in taking initiatives, critical thinking, creativity, social-emotional skills and developing a mission, vision, and values within, along with balancing key priorities.

These seven habits power our attitudes and behaviours – and ultimately our impact!

PRIVATE VICTORY -

Habit 1 - Be Proactive

The Habit of Personal Responsibility

Being proactive means being responsible for our own life and the choices.

To be Proactive
  • Pause and respond based on principles and desired results.
  • Use Proactive language.
  • Focus on your Circle of Influence.
  • Model positive behaviours and pass on effective habits to build others.

Habit 2 - Begin With The End In Mind

The Habit of Personal Mission

To Begin With the End in Mind means to start every endeavour with clearly defined outcomes. This relies on our ability to envision, see potential, and create with our mind what we cannot presently see with our eyes.

To Begin With the End in Mind
  • Define outcomes before you act.
  • Create and love by a personal mission statement.

Habit 3 - Put First Things First

The Habit of Personal Management

Put First Things First is the ability to organise time around the most important things.

To Put First Things First
  • Focus on your highest priorities.
  • Eliminate the unimportant.
  • Plan every week.
  • Stay true in the moment of choice.

PUBLIC VICTORY -

Habit 4 - Think Win Win

The Habit of Mutual Benefit

Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. It’s based on a paradigm that there’s plenty for everybody—that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense of others.

To Think Win - Win
  • Have an Abundance Mentality.
  • Balance courage and consideration.
  • Consider other people's wins as well as your own.
  • Create Win-Win Agreements.

HABIT 5 - Seek first to understand then to be understood

The Habit of Empathetic Communication

When we Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, we have a mindset of win-win. We act with consideration as we seek to understand the other person’s point of view. We act with courage as we express our own views with clarity and respect.

To Seek First to Understand Then to Be Understood:
  • Practise Empathetic Listening.
  • Respectfully seek to be understood.

Habit 6 - Synergize

The Habit of Creative Cooperation

Synergy means collaborating to create 3rd Alternatives rather than settling for compromise. When we Synergize, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts—one plus one equals three or more.

To Synergize
  • Value differences.
  • Seek 3rd Alternative

SELF RENEWAL -

Habit 7 - Sharpen The Saw

The Habit of Daily Self-Renewal

Sharpen the Saw® is about balanced renewal in all four dimensions of human need: body, mind, heart, and spirit. As we renew ourselves in these four areas, we create growth and change in our lives.

5 Core Paradigms

A paradigm is simply the way we "see" things. As a “Leader in Me” School, we have 5 Core Paradigms that drive our decisions, behaviours, and results.

These 5 Core Paradigms are:
  • Everyone can be a leader.
  • Everyone has genius.
  • Change starts with me.
  • Empower students to lead their learning.
  • Partnering with both educators and families to develop the whole person.

These paradigms or "the way we see things" at our school drive our everyday interactions with not only students but ourselves too. The support of families enhances our ability to lead students in their educational journey. It helps us to empower them to be responsible, reflective, and active in their learning experiences.

When you incorporate these five paradigms into your daily routine, you are communicating your own value as well as encouraging greatness in your child. To know more, Click here.
